Fix a grainy photo

Night shots, indoor photos, zoomed crops and old film all carry grain. PixelUp removes the noise and keeps the texture that makes a photo look real.

Noise out, texture in

Cheap denoisers blur everything until the grain is gone and the photo looks like wax. PixelUp separates noise from detail and removes only the noise.

Color and luminance noise

Night photos carry two kinds of noise: colored speckles and a grey grain. Both are removed, including the colored blotches in shadows that phones leave behind.

  • Clean shadows without color blotches
  • Smooth skies and walls

Texture that stays

Skin, fabric, foliage and hair keep their real texture. The model distinguishes grain from detail instead of smoothing both.

  • No waxy skin
  • Edges stay sharp

Old film and scans

Film grain and scanner noise from old prints are handled the same way. Pair with Restore for fade and scratches, or Colorize for black-and-white.

Questions people ask before uploading

Is this free?

Sign in with your email and get 12 free credits, enough for two runs. After that each run costs 6 credits at 1K, 10 at 2K, 16 at 4K, with the download included.

Will it make the photo look fake?

No. The pass is tuned to remove noise and keep texture. Skin, hair and fabric stay natural rather than waxy.

Can I keep some grain on purpose?

Not on the web yet; the pass removes it. If you want a film look, add grain back in your phone editor after enhancing.

Does it brighten dark photos?

Light is balanced as part of the pass, so a dark photo becomes more readable. It is not a full exposure recovery; very dark areas stay dark but clean.

Is grain the same as pixelation?

No. Grain is random speckle from the sensor or film; pixelation is missing resolution. This page handles grain; the pixelated image page covers the other.

What sizes can I download?

1K, 2K or 4K on the long edge, as JPG or PNG. 4K is about 4096 pixels, enough for an A3 print.
