Damage by damage

Each kind of damage leaves a different mark. The restoration pass treats them separately, so a scratch is removed differently from fade.

Scratches, dust and creases

Thin scratches, dust specks and crease lines are detected and filled from the surrounding image. Faces and fabric under them are rebuilt rather than smeared.

  • Paper texture is kept natural

Fade and color cast

Sun and age pull contrast out of prints and push them yellow or magenta. The pass restores contrast and neutral balance so the photo looks like it did when it was new.

  • Black-and-white stays neutral
  • Faded color prints get their color back

Larger damage with Erase

A stain or tear that covers part of the image is best handled with the Erase tool: paint over it and the area is filled from its surroundings. Then run Restore on the result.

How to restore a damaged photo

Three steps, no software to install.

Photograph or scan the print

Lay it flat in daylight without glare and shoot straight on, or scan at 300 dpi or more. JPG, PNG or HEIC up to 20 MB.

Erase large damage first, if any

For a tear or stain covering part of the photo, open Erase, paint over the area and let it fill. Skip this for scratches and fade.

Restore and download

Run Restore. In about 15 seconds you see the repaired photo. The 1K download is included; 2K and 4K are extra runs.

Questions people ask before uploading

Is this free?

Sign in with your email and get 12 free credits, enough for two runs. After that each run costs 6 credits at 1K, 10 at 2K, 16 at 4K, with the download included.

Can it fix a torn photo?

A tear with both halves present, photographed flat, is treated like a crease and usually closes cleanly. A missing piece is filled from its surroundings with Erase, which works for backgrounds and clothing but not for a missing face.

What about water damage?

Stains and tide marks are removed as color damage. Where the emulsion itself has lifted and the image is physically gone, the area is filled, not recovered.

Will the people still look like themselves?

Yes. The face model keeps identity, age and expression. It sharpens what is there rather than replacing it.

Can it add color afterwards?

Yes. Run Colorize on the restored result for natural, era-appropriate color.

What sizes can I download?

1K, 2K or 4K on the long edge, as JPG or PNG. 4K is about 4096 pixels, enough for an A3 print.
